Durrington Walls
Wind Band
The community band for Durrington
and the surrounding area
The Durrington Walls Wind Band was formed in September 2005 to provide continuity of musical opportunity for children moving between schools. It is a true Community Concert Band with players of all ages and abilities welcomed. We particularly hope to encourage adults to join us, who had learned an instrument in their school days but then gave up as their lives developed. Several playing members came back this way.
Children join as their skills develop, usually after reaching Grade three on their instrument.
The band is a friendly, sociable group of musicians who play for pleasure and enjoyment. Rehearsals are relaxed and fun and the band is often in demand for local events as well as playing entertaining concerts.
In January 2016 we had the privilege to appoint a professional Director of Music, who had retired as conductor of the Cheshire Regimental Band. In 2022, following a serious illness of that Director of Music, we were able to appoint our Deputy Conductor as the new Director of Music. This man has had an international career in South Africa and Europe before taking his final post as Head of Music in a private school in Wiltshire.
The band has been very fortunate that our professional leadership has not only enjoyed continuity but has the privilege of being led by another professional with such vast experience.
To cover expenses, members pay a small termly subscription (half price for children and second members in a family) but no money is paid to leaders for their very special contributions. Any money raised from events is paid in full into the band funds.

Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays at Durrington Junior School during Wiltshire Schools term time.

Wind Band are superb
The evening of Saturday 9th November, saw the Durrington Walls Wind Band join together with the Durrington Community Choir and Durrington Junior School Choir for their annual Festival of Remembrance at Larkhill Garrison Church.

It was lovely to see the church so full as performers played and sung their hearts out, in remembrance of those who have gone before us.

Thank you, Charles Jackson, for your wonderful feedback on the evening, that was published in the Salisbury Journal.
